If you have a pre-order with us and you're seeing Aero Style on the shelves at Target or Walmart, you probably have a question. We'd rather answer it here, in full, than have you wonder. And since this situation comes up with nearly every Hot Wheels Car Culture release, we figured a permanent writeup was overdue.
What We Know for Certain: Big box retail is at the Top of the Food Chain
Mattel doesn't sell directly to stores like ours (We're getting there thanks to you guys but we're not quite pulling the Hot Wheels inventory necessary...yet). Here's the actual flow:
Mattel → Big Box Retailers (Target, Walmart) → Big Independents & Distributors → Smaller Independent Retailers → You
But at this moment even Target and Walmart doesn't always have enough to go around, and rollouts aren't uniform across the country. You might be seeing Aero Style in your area, but ours definitely isn't. Picture above for proof as Kai and I burn 30 min shopping at Target and Walmart every Monday while we wait for his brother to finish drumming practice. But this is normal with practically everything that's in high demand: Diecast, Pokemon, GPUs, Porsche GT3s etc. 'My area is a desert, yours is a flood'.
Part of the appeal in ordering through us is that you don't have to find the employee's secret stash. You don't have to hope the manager isn't pulling all the chases before putting it out on the floor. You don't have to beat the 10 guys in your area who have a log of stocking days and times. You don't have to stop at the 3 stores on your way to work every day. If you're like me, life's too busy for that; you're already dividing your time between career, wife, kids, and all the responsibilities that come with being an adult.
