Pre-Order Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about how pre-orders work at Kai's Kollectibles; before, during, and after your purchase.
01 - What is a pre-order?
A pre-order is a reservation. When you pre-order from Kai's Kollectibles, you're securing your unit before it arrives at our warehouse, often before it's even finished production. You pay today, we reserve your piece, and it ships the moment stock lands with us.
02 - Why pre-order instead of waiting?
Because diecast manufacturers produce to demand, and they rarely revisit a mold once a run is done. The secondary market markups on sold-out releases are real and painful. Pre-ordering locks in the retail price and guarantees your unit from our distributor allocation. You won't be refreshing eBay six months from now hoping someone lists one at a reasonable price.
03 - Where can I see my pre-order ETA?
Two places: on the product page itself, displayed near the add-to-cart button and in your order confirmation email, which includes the ETA for each pre-ordered item at the time of purchase. If the ETA shifts significantly, we'll communicate that directly.
04 - What does the ETA actually mean?
ETA stands for Estimated Time of Arrival, and "estimated" is the key word. These dates come directly from the manufacturer and represent their best current projection for when stock will reach distributors. They are not guarantees. Production schedules shift, containers get delayed, customs takes its time. We post these dates because they're the best information available, not because they're locked in.
05 - What if the ETA changes?
We'll let you know if there's a meaningful shift. That said, manufacturers typically don't send formal notifications to retailers. Small movements often just happen without announcement. If you're tracking a specific release closely, Reddit communities (r/HotWheels, r/Diecast, r/MiniGT and brand-specific subs for Tarmac Works, Pop Race etc.) frequently surface updates before they reach retailers officially. We'll also post meaningful updates to our blog.
06 - I haven't heard anything. Is that normal?
Yes, completely. Manufacturers and distributors don't send retailers status updates between order placement and shipment. No news genuinely means no new information is available — not that something is wrong with your order. The moment your order ships, you'll hear from us right away.
07 - Where do I check for updates?
- Your account page - log in at kaiskollectibles.com to see all your orders, including pre-orders, under your profile.
- Our blog - we post updates on ETA changes and incoming stock there.
- Reddit - r/HotWheels, r/Diecast, r/MiniGT and brand-specific subreddits often have production and shipping updates before they reach retailers. Worth following regardless.
- Instagram & Facebook - we love chatting with collectors there. For anything order-specific, please reach out by email at Info@KaisKollectibles.com or DM. That way nothing gets buried in a comment thread.
08 - How will I know when my order ships?
You'll receive a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number the day your order leaves our warehouse. We aim to ship pre-orders the same day stock arrives from our distributor. There's no delay between receiving and fulfilling.
09 - Why does my order show as "On Hold"?
That's normal for pre-orders. "On Hold" is the standard designation for orders awaiting incoming inventory. It doesn't mean anything is wrong, it means we're holding your reserved unit until stock arrives. The status updates automatically once your order ships.
10 - Can I cancel my pre-order?
Yes, within the window:
- Within 14 days of purchase - free cancellation, full refund
- Day 15 through shipment - 20% cancellation fee applied to your order total
- After your order ships - no cancellations
To request a cancellation, email us at Info@KaisKollectibles.com. Full terms are in our Pre-Order Policy and Return & Refund Policy.
11 - What if the manufacturer cancels the model entirely?
You get a full refund with no cancellation fee, no questions asked. This is on them, not you. We'll notify you as soon as we receive word of a manufacturer cancellation or an indefinite delay with no resolution in sight.
12 - I ordered pre-order and in-stock items together; What happens?
If you ordered through our website, you were offered a shipping preference at checkout. If you purchased through the Shop app, or if a preference wasn't captured, we'll reach out by email to confirm what works best for you. The three options:
- Bundle by ETA (default) - we group items with nearby ETAs and ship them together. Items with large ETA gaps ship in separate bundles. Fewer shipments than option 3, without the full wait of option 2.
- Hold everything - nothing ships until all pre-orders arrive. Your original shipping charge covers the full order. Best if your ETA is within about 2 months and you're comfortable waiting.
- Ship as each item arrives - your in-stock item ships now, each pre-order ships the moment it lands. Maximum speed, but each additional shipment is billed at cost.
If we reach out and don't hear back within 3 business days, we'll default to Bundle by ETA.
13 - Can I add items to my pre-order before it ships?
Yes! Contact us and we can add to the invoice. The cleanest approach is to place a new order and let us know by email. If both orders haven't shipped yet, we can coordinate timing manually so they go out together and save you on shipping.
14 - What if my item arrives damaged?
We pack every order ourselves specifically to protect collector-grade product. If something arrives damaged, email us at Info@KaisKollectibles.com with a photo of the item and packaging within 7 days of delivery and we'll make it right. Full terms are in our Return & Refund Policy.
15 - Are quantities actually limited?
Yes, genuinely. Our pre-order quantities are capped by our distributor allocation, which is fixed when we place our order. When that allocation sells out, the pre-order closes. We don't oversell and there is no waitlist. If a pre-order is open, units are still available. If it's closed, they're not.
