How Chases Work
Every case that comes through official distribution is sealed and randomized by the manufacturer before it ever reaches us. We can't select, request, or guarantee chase inclusion on any pre-order or in-stock item - here's exactly how that plays out, brand by brand, and why a few of the "tricks" you may have heard about don't actually hold up.
- Hot Wheels Car Culture: Cases of 10 are sealed at the factory. We have zero control over the mix we get from our distributors, and we ship exactly what we receive. We don't hold back or hoard chases, for ourselves or anyone else.
- Mini GT: Most models ship in clear blister packs, so the model itself is visible, but we still pull from the case at random when filling orders. No cherry-picking on our end.
- Tarmac Works: Packaging varies by release: some in blister packs, some in acrylic display boxes. Either way, allocation happens at the factory/distributor level, not ours.
- Pop Race: Cardboard boxes sealed with shrink wrap no visibility into contents until opened. Certain Tokyo-Station and Enigma releases may be blister packed.
- Kaido House: Same as Pop Race: sealed cardboard boxes, no way to see inside.
- Trends Hobby: Cardboard boxes sealed with shrink wrap.
A note on the "weighing" theory: this one's been around collecting circles for a while, mostly carried over from trading cards, where foil/holo cards used to weigh noticeably more than base cards. That doesn't really translate to diecast. A chase and its base counterpart are typically the same casting in the same packaging, so there's no reliable weight that tells you what's inside.
On Hot wheels box codes: Some box codes can have a higher chances of a chase, but there are numerous codes in each set, like Aero Style, and they change per set, Aero Style vs Modern Classics, so there is no one unifying 'lucky code' that persists throughout multiple sets. We DO NOT get a choice on the box codes from the distributor. If you order multiples we DO try to give you multiple box codes to increase the chance you'll pull a chase. The only time we know when certain box codes will be luckier is when YOU GUYS tell us.
Bottom line: Most chases are the manufacturer's random insert, not ours to control. No order is guaranteed a chase unless a listing is explicitly sold and marked as such. Box-code variety on multiples is the only lever we can pull, and even that's not a promise.
